The Metaverse – Synthesis of the Real World and Virtual World

What is the Metaverse? Philip Rosedale, creator of Second Life, described it as “the third dimension on the internet, only with live people.” Many massively multiplayer online games incorporate social interactions as a primary feature. What does this mean for our current reality? We are living in a world where technology and innovation are converging. In the Metaverse, people can connect with one another and share ideas. There are even advanced virtual meetings. Metaverse avatars are digital representations of people that can perform many tasks just like their real-world counterparts.

The metaverse is a concept that could be developed in many ways, depending on the environment of innovation, research, investment, and policy. Because predictions tend to fail, it’s not surprising that big companies would want to get involved. For example, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Valve, Epic, and HTC are among the companies already involved in the metaverse. They believe it’s possible that the metaverse will develop into experiences that no one can possibly predict.

The metaverse’s synthesis of the real world and virtual world will allow companies to create a seamless experience for their users. As a result, many companies will be working to build hardware, software, and architecture for this new platform. But it will also affect companies outside the tech sphere. Because it aims to revolutionize the way we shop, navigate, and interact with other consumers, it’s bound to have a major impact.
